Settling a small debate I keep having with myself. For depositing USDT, do you go TRC-20 or Solana, and why.
My read so far: TRC-20 fees are a few cents and basically every offshore site lists a Tron address, so it just works. Solana is faster and even cheaper but I've hit two sites that only show ERC-20 and TRC-20, no SOL option, so I'm stuck bridging or paying ETH gas.
The thing that actually bites people is sending USDT on the wrong network to an address that only watches one chain. Lost a deposit credit for two days once because I sent Solana USDT to what was a Tron-only deposit flow. Got it sorted but ugh.
So which do you default to, and have you had a site credit slowly on one vs the other?
usdt on tron vs solana for deposits, what's cleaner

TRC-20 all day for deposits. Not because it's the fastest, Solana wins on raw speed, but because support is universal and the address format is hard to fumble. Every site reads Tron.
The network mismatch you mention is the real killer. Always copy the deposit address fresh from the cashier and confirm the network label literally says TRC-20 or Tron before you send. Memo isn't a thing on Tron USDT but people panic looking for one anyway.
Solana I only use where the site explicitly shows a SOL deposit. Otherwise not worth the bridge.

newer to this so dumb question, when you say wrong network does the money just vanish? that's what scares me off crypto deposits honestly
i've only done two deposits both TRC-20 because a forum told me that's the safe default. both credited in like a minute. haven't tried Solana at all yet

Re Sam, it's not gone forever in most cases. If the site's deposit address is a normal wallet they control on the chain you sent to, support can usually credit it once you send a tx hash. The truly lost ones are when you send to a contract or an address that only exists on the other chain. So not zero risk, but recoverable more often than not.
For the actual question, Solana confirmations are sub second and fees are fractions of a cent, technically cleaner. But Greg's right that listing support is thinner. I default Solana when offered, TRC-20 otherwise. Never ERC-20 unless forced, gas makes small deposits dumb.
